The $35 million Global NY Fund provides loans and grants to help New York State’s small- and medium-sized businesses go global and create new jobs in New York.
 
The Global NY team is coming to all 10 regions of New York State to introduce the $35 million Global NY Fund, which provides loans and grants to help small and medium-sized New York businesses start exporting or increase their global export sales. Grants are also available to non-profits that provide export assistance and trade education to New York State companies. A LOAN FUND
ESD is working in partnership with lenders to extend financing to New York State companies seeking to create or expand direct exports, or to serve as suppliers to larger exporters. Through the program, loans of up to$500,000 are available for companies to purchase equipment and inventory needed to deliver on export-related contracts and provide working capital to support foreign accounts receivable. The program benefits businesses unable to access traditional credit markets, and will leverage tens of millions in export financing for New York State companies.

A GRANT FUND
This fund provides grants of up to $25,000 to help companies start exporting or increase their global exports. For example, grants may be used for market customization, participation in trade shows/missions, export workshops, and product adaptation to meet foreign regulatory requirements. Grants of up to $50,000 are available to non-profit organizations that provide export assistance and trade education to NYS companies.

Beware credit counseling services like Clear Your Debt LLC

An advisor at one of our regional centers asked me to share some information he learned while working with a client last week. During the course of the counseling session, the client revealed she had signed up with a credit counseling service, Clear Your Debt LLC, from Austin, TX. The advisor was concerned when he read the contract the client signed, which prompted him to investigate the company. The Better Business Bureau in Austin told the advisor they had received numerous complaints against Clear Your Debt LLC. Though Clear Your Debt promised financing, counseling and other assistance, the advisor’s conclusion - after reading their confusing contract and talking to the BBB - was that the client would pay $15,000 for basically nothing. At that point, the advisor encouraged the client to return the contract she signed and cancel the agreement (this was within 3 days of the client signing the agreement).
